The National Headquarters through Regional National Business Agents, and local Branches strongly support two mainstream causes in an ongoing program. We hold a nationwide annual Food Drive on the second Saturday in May each year. This year on May 9, we joined with the United States Postal Service, the Montgomery Area Food Bank, and many corporate sponsors to orchestrate the Food Drive. We collected 112,837 pounds of food that was donated to the Montgomery area Food Bank and other local support organizations. You may contact the Montgomery area Food Bank at 334-263-3784.
We also have a yearly sustained program to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association in hopes of finding a cure for the disease. NALC has steadily supported this program for more than 50 years. Our local MDA coordinator, Rusty Hudson from the Linden, Alabama Post Office, organized a Bowl-a-Thon on June 14 which raised $2,710.00. By the time Labor day rolled around, we presented a check for $3,500.00. Here is a page of pictures from the bowl-a-thon.
The Headquarters office of the National Assocation of Letter Carriers scheduled a nationwide National Bowl-A-Thon in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We gathered 4 teams from Montgomery and raised another $1,000.00 for a year to date total of $4,500. This years goal is $5,000.00 and there is still time to donate.
